I was looking to build a receive only antenna for hunting down weather
balloons and found some fantastic plans on the Hurst Amateur Radio Club website.
Using PVC, a metal tape measure, some wire zip ties and coax it took about an hour to build.

With just about any antenna and a radio tuned to 145.800 MHz
and a software program like MMSTV you can also capture the ones like below.
Audio from the radio into your computer and that's it.
